The grand hall of the Rathore Mansion was transformed into a breathtaking sanctuary of marigolds, white lilies, and soft pastel drapes. The subtle aroma of sandalwood and fresh flowers filled the air, blending with the gentle notes of classical flute music playing softly in the background.
Today was Disha's Godhbharai-her traditional baby shower-celebrating her seventh month of pregnancy.
In the center of the bustling courtyard, Disha sat on a raised wooden jhula (swing) decorated with white jasmine and soft velvet cushions. She looked radiant in a heavy lavender and gold silk saree, her dark hair woven into a loose braid decorated with fresh flowers. Her pregnancy glow was undeniable, but her face currently wore a subtle, exhausted frown.
Standing right beside the swing, looking like a stern, impossibly handsome bodyguard, was Aryan.
He wore a tailored cream-colored kurta with silver embroidery, his sleeves rolled up slightly to his forearms. He held a glass of warm almond milk in one hand and a small bowl of roasted dry fruits in the other.
"Aryan, please... bua sa just gave me sweet kheer five minutes ago," Disha whined softly, pouting as she looked up at her husband. "Mera pet abhi phat jayega."
(My stomach will burst right now.)
Aryan didn't even blink. He knelt beside the swing, bringing the glass to her lips.
"Lavender, the doctor specifically said you need extra energy today because of all this sitting and meeting guests," Aryan said, his voice a deep, quiet command that carried absolute devotion. "Chupchaap do sips piyo."
(Drink two sips quietly.)
"ese toh mein moti hojaungi" she muttered, but she leaned in and took two slow sips anyway.
(i will get fat )
Aryan's face softened instantly. He set the glass aside, reached out, and gently adjusted the heavy silk pallu over her shoulder so it wouldn't weigh down on her lap. His large, warm hand rested over her prominent bump, feeling the soft movement of their baby inside.
"Good girl, and i like chubby version of you. it would be more fun burying my face in between your thick thighs " he whispered.
"ryan shut up you are so shameless." disha said her cheeks are blushing.
He pressing his lips to her temple, completely ignoring the giggles of the older female relatives standing nearby.
A few feet away, sitting comfortably on a plush velvet sofa, was Aadhya.
She wore a soft, breathable pastel pink lehenga that gracefully draped over her five-month baby bump. She was surrounded by a few family elders, but her attention was entirely focused on Reyansh, who was currently causing a mild scene with the servants.
"No, I said no crushed ice in her mint water," Reyansh's voice cut sharp and authoritative across the room. He stood near the juice counter, looking commanding in a deep navy-blue kurta. "Her throat is sensitive today. Room temperature only."
"Yes sir," the nervous butler replied, quickly replacing the glass.
Reyansh took the glass himself and walked back over to Aadhya. His movements were deliberate and attentive. The moment he reached her sofa, he ignored everyone else around them and crouched down in front of her.
"Drink this, butterfly," Reyansh murmured softly, his dark eyes scanning her face for any sign of tiredness. "Aap thak toh nahi gayi? Do you want to go upstairs and rest for a bit?"
(Are you tired?)
Aadhya smiled warmly, taking the glass from his hand. Her heart fluttered at how gentle this powerful, intense man became whenever he was near her.
"Reyansh, I'm fine," Aadhya said softly, her fingers gently brushing against his jaw. "I've just been sitting here chatting with Aunty. You've asked me ten times in the last hour."
"And I'll ask twenty more," Reyansh replied smoothly, taking her small hand in his and kissing her palm. "You're carrying my child, and you spent months stressing over me in London. It's my turn to take care of you."
He glanced down at her bump, sliding his hand over the soft fabric. Aadhya laid her hand over his, feeling the steady, grounding rhythm of his heart.
While Aryan went to coordinate the rest of the catering arrangements with Vihaan, Reyansh decided it was time to check on the star of the day.
He walked over to Disha's swing, his heavy footsteps quiet on the thick carpet.
Disha was currently trying to rearrange her heavy jewelry, looking visibly annoyed with the heavy gold bangles clinking against her wrists.
"Need some help, doll?" Reyansh's deep voice startled her slightly.
Disha looked up, and her annoyed face instantly melted into a bright, childlike smile. "bhaiya!"
Even though Reyansh was an intimidating, powerful figure to the outside world, to Disha, he was the elder brother figure who had always held a safe, protective umbrella over her life. Their bond was built on deep respect, playful teasing, and an unspoken understanding.
Reyansh sat on the edge of the swing beside her, completely unbothered by the heavy saree fabrics. He reached out and gently unclasped a particularly heavy gold necklace that was pressing against her collarbone.
"Mom gave you the heavy family heirlooms, didn't she?" Reyansh asked with a low laugh, placing the heavy ornament onto a side table.
"Yes!" Disha vented, rubbing her neck with a small sigh of relief. "Itna bhaari hai, bhaiya. My neck was hurting so much, but Aryan was too busy checking my juice intake to notice!"
(It's so heavy, bro.)
Reyansh chuckled softly, his eyes filled with immense warmth as he looked at her. He reached out and gently pinched her chubby, glowing cheek, making her squeak.
"Hey! Don't ruin my makeup!" she complained, though she didn't pull away.
"You look beautiful, doll," Reyansh said, his voice turning surprisingly soft and sincere. He looked down at her bump, his hand gently patting the side of her waist. "I still remember your childhood all stubborn and full of fight. And now look at you... you're going to be a mother."
Disha's eyes softened, a small, emotional tear welling up in her lashes.
"I couldn't have done it without you, bhaiya," Disha whispered, her voice thick with genuine emotion. "When things were dark, when Aryan and I were hurting each other... you were always the anchor. You protected me even when I didn't ask for it."
"Of course I did," Reyansh replied firmly, leaning in to press a warm, brotherly kiss onto the top of her head. "You are my family, doll. Anyone who looks at you the wrong way has to go through me first. That includes Aryan if he ever steps out of line."
Disha let out a bright laugh, wiping her eye carefully. "Aryan is terrified of you anyway!"
"He should be," Reyansh grinned wickedly. He then reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box, sliding it into her hands.
Disha blinked, opening the box. Inside was a delicate, custom-designed platinum bracelet adorned with tiny, brilliant diamonds and a tiny charm shaped like a baby's footprint.
"Wooow bhaiya... this is gorgeous," Disha gasped, her eyes shining.
"It's from me and Aadhya," Reyansh said softly. "A little reminder that no matter how big your family gets, your brother is always here for you."
Disha didn't care about her heavy saree or her neat makeup anymore; she leaned over and threw her arms around Reyansh's neck, hugging him tightly.
"Thank you, bhaiya. You're the best," she murmured into his shoulder.
Reyansh wrapped his strong arms around her carefully, supporting her heavy bump with ultimate precision, patting her back gently. "Always, doll. Always."
The Ceremony Begins
From across the hall, Aryan walked back in just in time to see his wife hugging his brother. A soft, satisfied smile played on Aryan's lips. The deep respect and love between his wife and his brother was something he cherished deeply.
Aryan walked up to the swing, offering his hand to Disha. "Time for the ritual, Lavender."
The priest called for the auspicious muhurat. Devika Rathore, along with the older women of the family, gathered around the swing. They performed the traditional aarti, applying a soft touch of vermilion (tilak) to Disha's forehead and placing coconut, fruits, and sweets into her lap (godh), blessing her and the unborn child with health, prosperity, and long life.
When it was Aadhya's turn to bless her sister-in-law, she stepped up gracefully, guided by Reyansh who held her hand every step of the way.
Aadhya placed a gentle hand on Disha's bump, her eyes full of love.
"May our babies grow up to be as close as we all are," Aadhya whispered emotionally.
"They definitely will," Disha smiled brightly, hugging Aadhya warmly. "And they're going to have the most overprotective fathers in the world."
Reyansh and Aryan looked at each other, both men letting out a unison chuckle that made the entire room smile.
A Quiet Moment of Devotion
As the evening approached, the guests began to slowly depart, leaving the house in a peaceful, quiet glow of warm lamps and scattered rose petals.
In the quiet alcove near the courtyard garden, Aryan sat on a wide wooden bench, pulling Disha close into his lap. She was completely exhausted, resting her head against his broad chest, her feet tucked up away from the floor.
Aryan had already removed her heavy jewelry and loosened her hair. His long fingers gently massaged her tired shoulders, his touch tender and unhurried.
"Satisfied now, my drama queen?" Aryan murmured softly against her ear, his lips brushing her warm skin.
"Mmm..." Disha hummed, closing her eyes in pure comfort. "Everything was perfect, Aryan. Absolutely perfect."
Aryan smiled, his large hand coming to rest on her belly, feeling the gentle, rhythmic kicks of their baby. "You are my whole world, Lavender. Everything I do is for you and this little one."
Disha turned her face slightly, pressing a soft kiss against his jawline. "Main tumse bohot pyaar karti hoon, Aryan."
(I love you so much, Aryan.)
"Main bhi, my life, " Aryan whispered back, tightening his embrace as the cool evening breeze drifted through the courtyard.
On the balcony overlooking the same garden, Reyansh stood holding Aadhya from behind. His arms were wrapped securely around her waist, his chin resting comfortably on her shoulder as they watched the quiet night sky.
Aadhya leaned back against his solid chest, taking in his familiar, comforting scent of cedarwood and faint cologne.
"Today was such a beautiful day, Reyansh," Aadhya murmured, wrapping her hands over his.
"It was," Reyansh agreed quietly, his voice a warm rumble against her back. He turned his head slightly, pressing his lips to her burning cheek. "But the most beautiful part of my day is right here in my arms."
Aadhya turned her head, her eyes sparkling with endless affection. "You've changed so much, Mr. Rathore."
"Only for you, Aadhya," Reyansh whispered, his dark eyes locking onto hers with intense, unwavering devotion. "Only for you."
He leaned down, capturing her lips in a sweet, lingering, deeply romantic kiss that sealed the peace, love, and joy of their home-a family finally whole, protected, and deeply intertwined in love.
.
.
Disha looked at him quietly for a moment before speaking in a soft voice.
"Aryan... can I ask you something?"
Aryan nodded gently. "Hmm... ask."
She hesitated for a second before gathering her courage.
"Why don't you tell Babhi everything? The truth."
His expression froze.
Disha slowly reached out and placed her hand over his, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
"Babhi won't misunderstand you, Aryan. She won't hate you. Please tell her the truth. Trust me... she'll be so happy to know it."
Aryan lowered his gaze. His fingers instinctively tightened around hers.
The next moment, he gently pulled her into his arms.
Burying his face in the crook of her neck, he closed his eyes as his voice trembled.
"I'm not sure, Disha..." he whispered. "I don't know how she'll react. I'm scared... so scared."
He held her a little tighter.
"What if she learns the truth and everything changes? What if this beautiful bond we have with her right now... shatters? I can't bear to lose her."
Disha slowly wrapped her arms around him, gently stroking his back.
"Nothing like that is going to happen," she said with complete confidence.
She cupped his face and made him look into her eyes.
"Trust me. I'm with you... always. Whatever happens, we'll face it together."
A small smile appeared on her lips as she wiped the fear from his eyes with her thumb.
"Please... tell her the truth. She deserves to know. And I know, from the bottom of my heart, she'll be happier than anyone."
Aryan closed his eyes for a long moment, letting her words sink in. The warmth of her hand against his cheek anchored him, pulling him back from the edge of the anxiety that had been consuming him for months.
When he opened his eyes again, the sheer terror in them had softened into a quiet, vulnerable resolve.
"You really believe that?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper, still catching slightly. "You really think she'll understand?"
"I don't just think so, Aryan-I know it," Disha replied softly, her gaze steady and full of unshakeable faith. "She loves you. And love doesn't shatter over the truth... it only grows stronger."
Aryan let out a long, shaky breath, as if releasing a weight he had been holding in his chest for far too long. He nodded slowly, leaning into her touch for just a second more before pulling back slightly, though he didn't let go of her hand.
"Okay," he whispered, a small, tentative smile touching his lips. "I'll do it. I'll tell her."
Disha's smile widened, bright and reassuring. "That's my Aryan."
"But..." Aryan added, his grip on her hand tightening slightly, a half-playful, half-desperate look in his eyes. "You're standing right next to me when I do. I'm not doing this alone."
Disha gave his hand a firm squeeze, her voice unwavering. "I promised you, didn't I? Step for step. We face it together."
